Rainbow Gardens

According to two sources, Rainbow Gardens opened in Wilkes-Barre in 1927, but did not have much to offer.

The major attraction was a Spillman carousel, which had three rows of wooden figures, including 20 jumping horses, one standing horse, two chariots, and a menagerie of animals including three roosters, two deer, two dogs, and one each of a pig, zebra, rhinoceros, ostrich, swan, tiger, lion and cow.

Rainbow Gardens closed in 1971, and the carousel was moved to Spring River Park in Roswell, New Mexico. It was donated to the city by Marianne Stevens.

According to the National Carousel Association, it still operates at the park today. There is no organ, and some of the figures may have been replaced, including two chariots by Muller.

Information obtained from Sans Souci Park, by C. Charles Ciesla; and the National Carousel Association Web Census.
